Deep cleaning filter with a front mounted multiport valve

Hi again,

I am looking to do a deep clean of my sand filter as per the instructions and videos I have seen here. My multiport valve is mounted on the front of my filter. So i am able to gain access without removing any plumbing. My question is, what setting to i place the valve to ensure nothing returns to the pool nor does any damage? Rinse? Closed? Winterize?
