Decking

We purchased a home with a pool in August. Getting use to maintenance and what not. Have noticed some cracking between the decking and the tile surrounding the pool. It does seem to be separating more with time. What in particular is happening here, how can I handle it and how concerned should I be?

That looks like your expansion joint.

The deck and the pool are separate structures and need space to move independently. That gap may increase or shrink depending on how your ground moves.

The expansion joint can be filled by foam backer rod and Deck-O-Seal or Sikaflex 1A.

FYI Sikaflex 1a is very similar to Masterseal (aka Sonolastic) NP1.

For flatwork and horizontal applications, I prefer Masterseal SL-1 (I believe is comparable to Sikaflex-1c SL) which has additional self-leveling properties.
