Vinyl liner, semi above ground, 16x36, chlorine. Original desk was Redwood. Replaced it with a all vinyl decking (5/8 x 5.5") that cannot bear the So. Cal. heat. It expands and contracts along a 16' length and rips the fasteners out. It pops up on the ends. I have used two types of hidden fasteners and now resort to using visible fasteners through the surface. I was considering a Trex Type alternative which has a wood grain which reduces the horizontal movement but the issue of the ends rotting near the water edge. Also what alternative for the coping or pool edge as concrete is not a viable choice.IMG_6831[1].jpg

Not around pool but my actual deck is made of composite decking i.e. Trex type. It does the same thing. I've had a number of deck boards expand and cause the hidden fasteners to break loose. In hindsight I should have just used normal above deck fasteners. My point is that material won't be any better in that regard.
