Looks Nice.............When are you going to stain your fence to match?? Just kidding i have gone thru what you did 2 times myself and it is hard work. Thts why i went to composite on my third deck. Enjoy your paradise!

Thanks.. I priced composite and it was well over 30g's for material alone. I like it but not that much :(...

Re: Deck is finished and the pool has been great for 2 years

How did you determine the height of your ledger board, and did you use 4x4's or 6x6's for your posts?
If you don't mind, how did you atatch 2x's to your posts under your deck up near pool? Since the pool is round how did you "square" off boards to posts in order to connect them with bolts??

Deweypip, if you go to the first page of the thread there r pics showing the build. The pics will show the build process and how we did it around the pool edge.

Re: Deck is finished and the pool has been great for 2 years

I recently built a deck using the plans at Deckplans.com. It is a different style of construction than shown in the photos in this thread. It is a floating pier system. For a 21 round pool, you make 18 sections of deck support frames and support them with 4x4s

As for the height of the supporting joists, their Splash Deck plans show you how to determine this height. In short, I took the height of the top rail and subtracted the depth of the widest (deepest?) area of the top rail (my rails are thicker in the center, outside the pool) the thickness of the decking board (1 in for composite decking) and the thickness of the joist (5 1/2 inches in my case). I think I ended up using 10 inches total. This 10 inches allowed me to level the pier footing, place the 4x4 in the block, find the line on the 4x4 where it is level with the top of the pool's rail and subtract 10 inches. This is different than the methods used in the deck shown in this thread.

Re: Deck is finished and the pool has been great for 2 years

In IL with the freezing climate and extreme hot and cold I was not sold on the pier system. My poles r 4*4 and burried about 4 feet in the ground and then cemented in place. Today it's a smooth 104 and not uncommon to be 20-30 below in the winter. I was worried about the ground not staying level so wanted a permanent solution. Actually that's about all that's recommended around here.

Re: Deck is finished and the pool has been great for 2 years

Well... in central California we get extreme heat 107-110F but freezes rarely occur in the Sacramento area... then its down to 20-25F for a night or two. Truckee, 80 miles away, gets over 10 feet of snow on the ground during a storm and may be subject to heaves, but not me. I have seen snow once in Sacramento. I do remember snow... I lived in Schaumburg, IL back in 1971.

Here is the "big" snow storm at my house. My front yard was under renovation.

Was that for a fully composite or just composite deckboards? We are getting a deck and are probably going to go wooden frame and railing with composite deckboards.

Newbie and first post!

Trolling the forums looking for decking ideas. We just installed a 24'x52" AGP this year and definitely need a deck next year. Did you design this yourself or did you use a deck plan? Thanks for sharing all of the great photos!

Re: Deck is finished and the pool has been great for 2 years

Hello - We've been watching your forum/pics for a year. We are almost set on finalizing the order of a Sentinelle 54" 18x33' oval and are sure your deck build is going to help a lot! Thank you for being so detailed. Can you tell us where you got the Majestic stairs from? The Great Escape doesn't offer them with lights.
Thank you

I designed it myself and drew it all out to scale before hand.

Thanks you

Thank you

I will have to search and find where we got them from again LOL.. It took 3 sets of stairs before we got one that wasn't damaged though. Really a PITA

thanks
