DE Powder getting in to pool

When I backwash and add DE power to my filter, some of it returns to the pool through the jets. I've read some about it, and I know that somewhere in the filter system something is going wrong.

I suspect the multiport valve... although I haven't seen that mentioned in many of the troubleshooting for DE power returning to pool. It just doesn't seem as "crisp" as it used to be when I rotate the handle. Yes, I shut the pump off every time I move the valve.

I know it could be my filter, but I haven't popped that open yet.

How easy is it to replace the multiport valve? Does it involve taking the entire black thing off and getting a new one? Or just unscrewing the 6 screws and replacing the guts of it? Attached are some pictures of the valve and my filter. I'd like to replace the valve to eliminate that, as long as it's not too pricey to replace. Then I can work on the filter if I am still having a problem. Can someone point me in the right direction for replacing this valve?

pgp,

Replacing the Multiport valve would require some re-plumbing since you would have to cut out some of the existing connections...

You could rebuild the existing one, as they sell kits to do that.

I would suspect that your problem is in the filter. When you say that you have not popped it open yet, do you mean ever or just not in while.

You need to open and clean the inside of the filter about once for every 3 or 4 times you backwash.. If you have not cleaned your filter in the past year, that is where you need to look first.

Tell us how you are adding the new DE??

Thanks,

Jim R.
