Hey all,

I have an old Sylvan DE filter(approx 30 years old) but it seems to work just fine after I replaced the filter grids last year.
One thing I noticed is the DE instructions reference 10 coffee cups which I think is less than a 1lb. I just picked up a 1lb de scoop so want to make sure I’m converting this correctly.

what would be the appropriate number of DE scoops?

Thanks all.

How many square feet of filtration area? Typically a DE filter is rated to use 1 lb of DE per 10 sq ft of surface area.

An old school coffee can usually is about 1/2lb of DE.

Just to clear up any future confusion, the label actually says (10) One Lb Coffee Cans not coffee cups.

As Matt said, an old 1 pound coffee can holds ½ lb of DE. So your filter needs about 5 lbs of DE for a fresh fill.
