Hey folks,

I have a new sand filter and opted for crushed glass as the media. I’ve been reading about DE and how it can filter even finer particles, and how to add this to filters with sand as the media.

my question is - will this work with crushed glass media filters?

many insights or feedback appreciated!

thanks
Mark

Welcome to TFP Mark :)

It seems to work just fine, lets see if @needsajet still uses it :)

Yes, I add DE, and I have recycled glass in mine. Mine worked out to about 125 to 175 ml by volume (1/2c to 3/4c). I add it via the skimmer. I buy it from direct pool supplies, one box looks like it will last me around 10 years.

Welcome to TFP! Good to have you here :)

I should have mentioned... I don't find it necessary to add DE every time I backwash. Typically it's after a storm or bushfire and I get dust in the pool and prefer to clear it out quickly. I live in Sydney which has dusty air from traffic and wood heating as well. Also, after a SLAM it's helpful.
