DE in pump basket

I just happened to be cleaning my pool when pump turned off for the day. I just added acid so when i went to turn the system back on i heard water gurgling in the plumbing and pump basket was full of DE.
Ideas?

The filter burped? Where did the DE go after that? That had to be scary to see!

I am going to do a item by item list. Fix what I get wrong:

-pump turn off by timeer

-you added acid

-you turned pump back on to mix the acid up

-pipes gurgled

-DE came from filter into pump basket when you the pump back on

How did I do?
