DE in pool is vac'ing the only way to remove?

Earlier today I saw what I felt was unusually high pressure of almost 20psi in my IG pool with a Hayward DE6020 filter. Usually I run around 15. I figured I would just pull the grid and clean it vs backwashing which I did without issue. But when I fired the pool back up I was shocked to see so much DE blow into the pool through the return jets. Never had that happen before. It was only a few seconds worth, but enough to turn the whole pool cloudy.

I did suspect a worn spider gasket in my Hayward Sp715 multi port valve, so I opened that up and replaced it. Honestly it looked pretty good, but I did find a few knicks in it that were likely the cause of leak down I would hear even when set to Closed or Recirc. Now I just need to get the DE out, and I know I can vac it out, but why won't the pool also filter what's floating in the water? How is this any different than adding DE to the skimmer when recharging the pool? Or will it do that for what's suspended, but unless you keep brushing and brushing, the only way to get what drops to the floor is to vac?

Here's the current situation. Makes me so mad. Pool was immaculate this morning before cleaning the cartridge.

Thanks

Just because it's all in suspension and it's going to take a while to get to the filter. You're not alone. Happens quite a but. Just give it some time.

Thanks, and sorry for not saying so sooner. I wasn't notified there was a reply. I ended up vac'ing the pool 4 times to get it out. Now I'm fighting mild algae and cloudiness off and on. Time to SLAM.

Last night we had a major storm blow through, and we picked up a quick 3" of rain. At 1am, I was dumping some water to waste, and then when back on filter on the MultiPort could hear something that wasn't right. I was like "That spider gasket popped out". Sure enough. I was dumping water to waste when on filter. Thank goodness I pay attention! Shut it down for the night and made sure I wasn't losing water (closed the skimmers) and just reseated the spider gasket with some adhesive (like I was supposed to do the first time, but missed that step). Letting it dry for 24 hrs now, and manually brushing to keep things moving.
