DE Filter recommendation

I'm going to need a new DE filter, thought I'd ask if anyone has one they or their pool guy likes.

The story:
Last year my Pentair 4000 series got a random crack in the upper half and I had to buy a new upper half. Three months later, same kind of crack in the lower half. I begrudgingly bought a lower half.
Eight months later and that new lower half has the same random crack, now leaking at a good rate. I did a warranty call to Pentair - and this was their response:
"I regret to inform you that the SM & SMBW 4000 SERIES™ FILTERS have been discontinued and it does not look like we will be able to fulfill your warranty for the Filter. With that being said, I feel the only way to resolve your issue is to offer you a full refund"
So I get my money back for that last bottom piece but now I have to buy a whole new filter!

Looks like I'm in for well over $1000, and I'm not too keen on Pentair again. What else is good?

I vote for the largest cartridge filter you can get.

If you can be swayed away from a DE filter, the Waterway Crystal Clear Cartridge Filter appears to be a good value.

I guess I could be convinced, don't know much about them, or what the comparable size is. Do they work as well?

The general consensus is go with the biggest filter you can afford. Check out @Jimrahbe post below. I strongly value his opinion.

Filter size ??

I am looking at switching from a sand filter to a cartridge filter. I have got a couple different quotes for different models. Which option is better, the Pentair 320 or Waterway 425 for a 10K gallon pool? The quotes are relatively close is price. Let me know the pros and cons. Thank you
