DE Filter or Cartridge

So I'm new to the pool ownership, just replaced the Chlorine Generator which failed.
My next question is should I stay with the DE filter or switch out to cartridge filter.
The grids look good and I have cleaned a few times when pressure increased or phosphate levels were high and pool was treated.

This question has been asked a bunch of times...comes down to preference really. Both can be very good.

Personally I find cart filters just as good and easier to maintain. However .... if your DE filter isn't broke, there's no reason to swap it out unless you just want to throw money at it. If/when the DE filter reaches the end of its service life or repair costs outweigh the need to keep it, then change it out.

On a side note, with few exceptions, phosphates are not anything you need to be concerned with or treat. Just be sure to test your own water with a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit and stick close to our Pool Care Basics page and you'll do fine.

If you're physically capable of dismantling a cartridge filter to remove and clean the filters, or financially capable of paying someone instead, I strongly suggest considering a cart filter when the need arises.

Until then, if it ain't broke.......

MPV

Then stick with your DE filter and MPV. IMHO the MPV has its advantages.
