DE Filter not fully covered with DE

Hi All,
My pool is cloudy and all the chemicals are good. My next check was the filter and when I removed it only half was covered in DE. I could not find holes/tears. Could the cause be that I put the DE in too quickly? I did find a bunch of Pine needles that made it past the pump strainer while vacuuming. Is there a way to prevent that as well?Pool DE.jpg

Can you please update your signature with your full equipment list. It helps to know what brand and model filter you have.

It is not uncommon to see uneven coating on a DE grid assembly. The thing to understand is that just because there isn’t a thick coating of DE on the nylon mesh doesn’t mean there isn’t DE there. That said, your grids do look suspiciously uneven.

How are you adding DE to your filter? How much are you adding? What speed (if variable) is the pump running at?

L,

I see that all the time.. When you open the drain plug and drain the water out of the filter, the DE on the bottom half tends to sluff off and out with the draining water, while the top half tends to stay on the grids..

I consider it normal. But maybe that is just because that is how both of my DE filters work and I don't want to know if I have an issue..

Thanks,

Jim R.
