I am on day 5 of a SLAM. Water is mostly clear but has a greenish tint to it. We are losing too much chlorine during the day and aren't coming close yet to passing an OCLT. When I woke up this morning, I did a full test of my water and the results were as follows: FC: 5, CC: 1, PH 7.2, TA: 60, CYA: less than 30. Before I started the SLAM, PH was 7.8 and CYA appeared to be around 20. I added enough stabilizer to the pool in front of a deep end return to get the CYA to 30, according to pool math. We got 2 inches of rain on Tuesday and I had to drain a lot of water out of the pool because of this. We have backwashed the pool 4 times during these 5 days and lost a lot of water to backwashing as well. Should the CYA that I added be registering by now or do I need to add more CYA since I've drained so much water out? If so, how much do I add since I don't know exactly what the CYA is? I don't think it is zero since I can't see the dot clearly at 30, but I have no idea if its closer to 20 or if its closer to 10. I normally confirm my CYA results by taking a sample to a pool store but I can't do that today. Do I need to do anything about the low PH if it is 7.2 and the low TA if it is 60 or is it okay to proceed with the SLAM with the PH and TA that low?

During the SLAM Process you should only test FC and CC. And occasionally CYA if the process goes on for many days.

Your pH and TA are fine. Leave it be.

Add 10 ppm of CYA in a sock by a return and let it dissolve. In 48 hours retest CYA and if still below 30 PPM add another 10PPM. Repeat until CYA is around 30 ppm.

Trust your test kit and don't go to the Pool Store.

I added 1.5 pounds of stabilizer to a sock and put it in front of a deep end return this afternoon to increase the CYA by 10 ppms. After about an hour, I went outside and squeezed the sock to get it all into my pool quickly. Since I got 1.5 pounds into my pool so quickly, will it show up on a test by tomorrow? If I find dead algae on the bottom of my pool tomorrow morning like I did last night, can I vacuum and backwash my sand filter without losing much of the CYA that I just added? When you get CYA in the pool that quickly, do you need to brush the pool after adding it to disperse the CYA around the pool and prevent CYA from settling to the bottom and stain the pool? I passed 2 out of the 3 criteria of an OCLT this morning so I'm hoping that increasing the CYA will help me finally pass it.

You should brush any stabilizer around that falls on the pool floor as it dissolves.

It can take two or three days before the stabilizer shows in a test.

You should not backwash for a few days after adding stabilizer otherwise you can lose some.
