darn spider gasket AGAIN!

The original gasket lasted 6 years. Then the next two, lasted 1 year each. I must be doing something wrong. I did spend a long time cleaning up the old sealant so that was not the issue. The first time I used permatex ultra black. It dries very hard and was just as hard to remove as the OEM stuff. The second time I use permatex gray (suitable for cooling systems - so I figured it was ok for the wet service). Another fail!. Now I read where people use permatex blue 80022. Is that the thing to use? Pentair recommends Loctite 401, 403, or 416 but the pricing for those is INSANE! $15+ for 0.7 oz! What do ya'll use? I've read where some use no adhesive, or grease, but I don't see how it would stay in place w/o glue.

Another issue. I bought the replacement gaskets from Liberty Pools (Amazon). They were supposedly Pentair parts (pn 271148) but were not in Pentair labelled packaging. The OD of the gasket is a tiny bit too small. I have to very carefully work it into the outer ring groove in the valve body, and then it tries to "pop out" of place. Is this normal, or did I get a knock off crappy part?

I have done a lot of googling and the adhesive question / problems seem to be common. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a pm to someone that may know.

My question to you is do you only turn your handle in one direction? That is what I was taught to do and my spider gasket is still going strong (I am sure it will go bad tomorrow after saying this  LOL).

nfs,

How often do you backwash your filter? Do you use the multiport valve for anything else?

The only reason I ask, is I have two rent houses that have DE filters, that have not been backwashed in years... I clean them twice a year and that is it...

I have often thought of just removing the MPVs, but since they are not giving me any problems, I have no real reason to do it.

Thanks,

Jim R.
