Hey all,
Guessing everyone will tell me what I don't want to hear but let me lay it out. I knew I was walking the tightrope but I've had the pool just crystal clear and sparkling. With Father's Day approaching and being hosted at my place, I had to do the Ascorbic Treatment. Of course it was looking even better but I knew I was on a timer w/ the FC gone from the pool. I'd added the higher of the recommended dosage of Polyquat 60 and it held clear for 2 days so Father's Day was a success. I couldn't get a sequestrant here before today so my plan was to keep praying to the pool gods to keep things clean until I could add ProTeam Metal Magic and get some chlorine back in the pool.

Today I wake up and the pool is now an opaque blue. I'm guessing the algae finally won the tug of war w/ Polyquat. I don't believe adding Poly will be an effective treatment at this point so I'm wondering if I can get out of this without having to SLAM, which will put all the metal back on the walls, making me start all over again. Thanks for making it this far and appreciate the help as always.

Thanks!

Once you have algae, adding algaecide won't help.
Adding algaecide will cause chlorine use to increase. And chlorine will break down the algaecide. If you are going to use algaecide, use it when/if you close your pool only.

After your ascorbic acid treatment you will need to add a sequesterent to hold the metals in suspension (and add this sequesterent at regular intervals) or you will need to do a full drain/refill.

Does your fill water have iron in it?

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if it's my fill water or something in my heater but it's always in there and I've kind of just learned to live with it.

I was hoping the metal would stay in the water until my sequestrant showed up but it appears the algaecide gave in beforehand.

What is my next step here? Do I have to SLAM to get rid of the algae and then start over? Or is there a more surgical path?

Thanks again!
