Damage to old plaster- is this bad?

At some point during the cleanup of debris our bench got damaged and has a big gash in it now. The contractor was planning to plaster over the old plaster. Will this be able to be fixed And made to look seamless? I know there are some instances where the whole pool needs to be chipped out… Not sure if this is necessary or if they can go ahead as planned.

I doubt yiu have to chip out the entire pool and replaster it. Yiu will have clean white plaster that will need to be blended into the old dirty plaster. How visible it will be depends on the skill of the plastere and where they make the edges.

It will be a lot less visible once water is in the pool. And you may see the differnece but i doubt guests will notice your steps are cleaner then the walls of your pool. A pool has lots of shadows and reflections from the water which will hide the differences.

Yes that is the old plaster. It will be covered with stonescapes mini pebble. I wasn't sure what could be blended a what warrants chipping out all the old plaster. At some point I signed something that stated in some cases old plaster would need to be chipped out and wasn't sure what cases would warrant that.
It sounds like the gash can be repaired the then the new plaster can be bonded without issue.
Thank for your reply... this remodel is a lot more nerve wracking than I anticipated!
