I just opened my pool 4 months ago after resurfacing. I was using Trichlor tabs as primary chlorine source, but CYA quickly jumped to over 80. I have switched to LC after replacing water to lower CYA. Is there any trick to using Trichlor to prevent skyrocketing CYA?

Trichlor (tabs, pucks, etc) should only be used when the pool owner is not available to add liquid chlorine. So for daily maintenance, you use liquid chlorine. If you are away for a few days, use the pucks. Then test CYA when you return and adjust your target FC as shown in [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA].
How are you testing your pool water chemistry?
I suggest you read Pool School - ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and consider reviewing the entire Trouble Free Pool School book.

I use the Taylor DPD test kit (not sure of the number). It tests for FC, TC, pH, TA, CH, CYA, and NaCl, but I don't have an SWG.

Does it say K-2005 on the box?
We recommend having a FAS-DPD test for FC and CC. It can test to 50 ppm FC.

It has a Leslie's label. Kit was manufactured for Leslie's by Taylor. The only number I see is 81- 330.

That will be a K2005 rebranded as Leslie's.
