CYA Question

I have a chlorinator that consistently keeps the chlorine level in my pool where I want it (about 5ppm).

While testing today I noticed that the CYA has dropped below 30 (that's the lowest level the kit measures - I don't think it can have dropped much below this).

Should I add Cyanuric Acid to bring the level up again or is that not necessary given I do not seem to have a chlorine issue ?

I’m no chemist, but I trust the chart in this reference material. There’s a balance between CYA and FC that you want to maintain. It’s not a one or the other relationship.

I understand the reluctance to adjust something that's in balance, but it's likely your SWG is working considerably harder than it would need to to maintain FC with a higher CYA level. It's your call, if things are where you want them and the FC is within range for your CYA (it is) then you can certainly keep it that way but you may shorten the life of your SWG cell.
