Hello,
My CYA dropped significantly last week because I had to drain a total of about 18” of water from my pool due to extremely high amounts of rainfall. I added about 4 lbs which according to pool math should have put the CYA at about 80-90 ppm max. I tested today and the CYA could be at 100 or beyond. I tried to do a CYA dilution test with 1:1 tap water to pool water ratio and I think it’s probably right around 100 or maybe a touch higher. I have a swg. As long as I keep the FC around the high end of the acceptable amount for 100ppm CYA will that be ok until I have to either backwash or drain? Or should I backwash and drain now recognizing that the CYA is a little too high. The reason I don’t want to drain right now is because I just added some other stuff ie calcium hardness increaser that I don’t want to drain out. Thanks!

You can maintain your FC high enough to meet the FC/CYA ratios.

You have a vinyl pool. No need to add calcium to your water.

Thanks @mknauss !
I only added calcium to bring the CH over 200 for my heater. I won’t be adding again unless it falls under 200. Thanks for the advice!

For Smithtown NY your at the end of your season. I see no reason to do anything but keep the FC high as per chart/ratio. You'll just need to slam high for closing and maybe come next opening season still have some in the chemistry.
