Got a new liner, filled the water, did the math, poured the liquid CYA....

waited a couple days.....digital tests at 2 various pool stores ranged from 25-40.....last three though were 25,28, and 27.....I can't tell if i can see the dot or not when I do Taylor...Even when I got my third 27ppm...I added 20 oz of liquid stabalizer, still got the same results from the pool store....I have to be really close to 30....have ABG vinyl above ground pool (not salt)....am I close enough to 30?!?!

The pool store isn’t any better at the test than you. Fill up the dial to 30 mark and check if you can see the dot or not. If you can’t, it’s 30ppm. Don’t fill in between the lines on the tube.

Best instructions available...do this:

I added 20 oz of liquid stabalizer, still got the same results from the pool store
The good stuff clumps up on the bottom and you pour mostly water with liquid stabilizer. Not enough, not enough, not enough , not enough, WHAM too much.

For this reason, which you've now seen firsthand, we recommend granual CYA. Liquid CYA is also very expensive so that's 2 strikes.

I have an AG vinyl lined pool .... you're going a little bit over the top with this. CYA isn't a hard must have, who cares if its 30, 40 or more just get it to a good level. If you have to add a little bit more chlorine because CYA is 50 then just add a little bit more chlorine! Other than keeping the chlorine at a safe level to prevent algae it only matters when SLAMing.

I do the CYA test by dribbling the water into the tube, looking it with one eye until I can't see the dot, then repeat it with the other eye. I then compare CYA levels from both eyes ... close enough.

So....am I good at 27/28 or wherever the freak I am?!?! I use a solar cover for the first time this season, and my chlorine loss has been minimal....last year with no cover....lose on average 3-5ppm....this year...granted it hasn't been too sunny....averaging like 1ppm

The best test is the one you do. Assuming you are using fresh reagents that's the best anyone can do. I worked in a hospital years ago that had an issue with a ph meter ... after a long time troubleshooting the tech found out they were using expired calibration solutions. Garbage in - garbage out. So the machine that you are relying on is only as good as the person calibrating that machine and if they know how to properly useit.

Are you OK at 27/28 - probably. The solar cover will give you less chlorine burn off then the pool staying open to the sun as you saw. Last year I hardly used any chlorine due to our solar cover.

June can go alot of different ways here. Sometimes by the day. Lol.

Pay attention and adjust as necessary. (y)
