I had recently noticed that my CYA was low and yesterday put some in a sock and had it suspended in the skimmer box, BUT I forgot to keep the pump running and it was sitting in the skimmer overnight for several hours. I knowit is acidic, but how much, if any damage, could this have caused? I have since changed to hanging it infront of the return.

Thanks.

No concern. CYA is very mildly acidic. I find putting the sock in the skimmer to be a better method. The CYA disappears very rapidly, but warmer water helps that.

That's been my experience as well. I used to hang near the returns, but it was a bit of a pain to get it suspended the way I wanted (depth, away from shell, etc). Now I let the sock sit in the skimmer for about 20-30 min and I can squeeze it all out in a matter of about 5-10 minutes.
