For anyone referencing:

I use quite a bit of LC as it is since switching beginning summer 2022 with TFP (pool has been BEAUTIFUL). About 5-6 gallons a week(winter a lot less). CYA always in the 40ish range (didn’t test often cause of this), no issues till about 2 months ago when the chlorine usage became more and more and I thought “well, summers here chlorine is gonna go up”. It did to a point that a gallon a day was not enough. I tested my cya and could see the dot pretty easily at the full mark (30). After 2 weeks I started believing my cya had dropped. So I got a gallon of stabilizer, added the whole bottle, didn't think it would be enough. 18 hours later tested and was definetly 35-40. Tested today 36-42 hours later. Cya is 45 and the chlorine I added yesterday has already lasted longer than what has been happening. I attribute this to all the backwashes through the year. I used liquid stabilizer cause I wanted a quick reaction.

Thanks for sharing Joshua !!!!

This exact scenario plays out over and over and over. If FC isn't holding, it's either algae or the CYA dropped, 999 out of 1000 tines.

I would say being in AZ with all your sun you might want to take the CYA up 50 and keep it there. You should see your FC holding longer.

I'm at 60 currently as I wasn't using swcg until a week ago but I will be pushing to 80 soon as our weather stabilizes to normal surface of the sun 😂😂

Ah! the voice of experience :). Thank you for sharing that.... You know better than most what the sun in AZ will do to pools.
Sun is brutal here but it's been a weird weather year so far. We've only hit triple digits a few times so far lol that's why my CYA is riding low at the moment but soon I think we will be back to surface of the sun level

In Houston with zero shade I run CYA 60 or even 70. Makes a huge difference over running it at 50.

Never flirt with minimum when running CYA on the high side. Or ever, really. But especially when running CYA on high side.

What adverse affects start popping up when you head towards 60-80 range?

This is the only negative for raising CYA. The higher levels are harder to maintain because they burn off faster. It really becomes noticeable in the 20s. So if you were to need to SLAM, it'd be a chunk of effort and it would flatten your wallet.

Minimum is lava at any CYA level, but it's violently bubbling lava at the higher levels. Steer way clear.
