CYA and SLAM

Opened pool 2-3 weeks ago- first time it opened green. Got it clean within a 2-3 days, everything seemed fine but started to notice small amounts of green algae here and there; and off and on slipperiness. And then this past week, we lost 3-4 PPM of chlorine overnight and I knew we had a problem. In retrospect, I don't think we (I'll blame on my husband) shocked the pool enough when we opened. I don't think we truly got rid of all the algae. We live in PA and we've never had algae in May!

So I decided to try the SLAM method this past weekend and FINALLY got the FC to 24 (which was recommended based on my readings at the time). I am finally at 24 FC and all my other numbers are good- PH 76, ALK 80-90, but my CYA is 50. Should I be raising my CYA? Will this cause issues with the SLAM? Going to do the OCLT tonight so we shall see what the numbers are tomorrow, but want to get opinions on the CYA reading (It was 50 when I started the SLAM process).

Leave CYA at 50 and perform the SLAM at 20 FC all the way to completion. You must pass all three tests simultaneously, and clear water means even after brushing.

Then you can add more CYA to get it 70 or 80. By the time the FC has dropped, the CYA should be dissolved, and the SWG can take over the chlorinating.
