CYA 70 and PPM 8.5 - too high for swimming?

10% Hypochlorite - Sunday Night added 1.5 gal - checked on Tues PM still looked green on walls scrubbed and added 2 gal maybe a tad more than that. Scrubbed walls Wed am, now today looks clear no more algae but high chlorine. I've slammed before with these amts and have never had it where it was so high 2 days later with pump running 24/7.

P.S. thank you for your input - I will check it tonight and then first think in am and see what levels are at then

That will raise your FC significantly. 2 Gallons will add 20ppm in your smaller pool.

Might I suggest that you print out these instructions, read them 3 times and keep them with you? Link-->SLAM Process Really helped me out to have hard copy...

With a CYA of 50, there is no need to exceed 20ppm. The the SLAM process and SLAM level FC is designed to be safe for people and equipment. Going higher doesn't speed the process.

+1 on the SLAM process, with a heavy emphasis on the PROCESS part. It seems like you are hitting (or exceeding) the SLAM number at times, but then going a day or two without testing or adding chlorine.

While you are knocking back the algae you are not completely killing it all, so it will continue to come back once your chlorine drifts down. Certainly a frustrating spot for all involved. Your goal is to get to the SLAM level, keep it at SLAM level by testing and adding chlorine 4+ times a day, and keep at it until all is dead. This process will take days or even weeks depending on how bad your pool is.
