CSI going too low?

Hi All,

Recently installed a SWCG in my pool and it has been going great. I usually pour in about 30oz of MA once a week to lower my pH from around 8.0 to 7.2. When I do this, it takes me out of the acceptable range of CSI for a few days until the pH rises again. Is this a big deal? I could always add less MA more frequently but to be honest adding MA isn't my favorite task in the world and would like to do it as infrequently as possible.

Thanks for your help.

Honest question. Why are you doing this? Stop doing this.

With a TA of 50, your pH will likely be fairly stable somewhere around 7.8, 7.9 or even 8. Let it stay at the high end. There is no reason to drive pH to 7.2.

Let it hover at 8, and only reduce it to 7.9 or let it sit. It even shows the acceptable range as 7.2 to 8.0 on pool math. This will also help with your CSI.

The more you lower it to 7.2 the faster it rises. Ironically if you just don’t lower the pH so much you won’t have to add acid as often.
