I see that CSI is a function of temperature - the lower the temperature, the lower the CSI. The difference between 85 degrees and 35 (our typical annual water temperature swings) is quite significant - ~0.5. Should I increase the CSI before closing the pool to the upper limit of ideal (ie +0.3)?

No need to go to extremes. While the water temp drops, the pH is expected to increase. Just balance the pH in the between 7.4 and 7.6 and make sure TA and CH are not too far out of line.
