Hello, pool is 14 months old. Noticed this crack on the top step in corner of pool. Is this something to worry about? Should I contact the PB? Anything I can do to fix it?
Here are my latest test results:
FC 6
CC 0
pH 7.8
TA 60
CYA 60
CH 525
Salt 3200
CSI -0.36
water temp
42.0 F
That crack is not good and may indicate other problems to come.
Yes, you should notify your Pool Builder and see what he says.
There's nothing you can do.
It looks like they did not use rebar for the steps and built them up with gunite/shotcrete. That is not a best practice. Rebar should have been formed in the step area.
See if the builder offers to strip the plaster off the step and check if the crack is in the gunite. The good news is with white plaster, a repaired step should match the rest of the pool.
Be present when the repair is being performed to be knowledgeable of the extent of the damage.
Have the cracked material removed until solid material is exposed to build on top of, whether that is PLASTER or Shotcrete.
On a separate note,
I am surprised the steel engineering plans did not incorporate the pillar only inches away from the pool wall into the pool bond beam due to the downward forces being applied.
The pillar was never talked about. That would have made sense though. Thanks for everyone's replies. The PB should be out to check it out by the end of the week.
