Does it make sense to cover my pool in AZ to reduce chlorine loss by sunlight and reduce algae? I also read that covering the pool increases water temp and promotes algae growth. If I am not missing something, I plan to get a large tarp and put it over the pool with some ropes to tie it down.

How do you chlorinate? Are you willing to take the cover off every day or two for a few hours to burn off CC and brush the pool?
I assume you do not enjoy the use of the pool?

My pool has gotten up to 94 degrees in Chandler without a cover. I can't imagine how hot it'd be with one.
