Cover that protects from UV but doesn't heat?

I live in Las Vegas, so obviously without a cover there are extreme levels of evaporation and chlorine degradation. The problem is that with a cover the pool gets up to 90-95+ degrees in the summer, making it unusable. My pool is quite large, so dragging the cover off every night to get some cooling is impractical.

Does anyone know of a cover that protects the chlorine from UV but doesn't heat the pool?

I was thinking of flipping the cover over so the little bubbles are on the "wrong" side....would that help?

Any ideas are welcome....thank you!

No. Evaporation is what keeps our pool water from heating well into the upper 90's low 100's.

You could place a sun shade over the entire pool area. They are available. You need to be sure to properly secure them.

I was afraid of that.

How do pool service companies keep the chlorine at the right levels when they only come once a week? I've found that without a cover, even with proper CYA levels, I'm adding bleach constantly.

They add large amounts of chlorine at their visit, and then put many trichlor tablets in the skimmer. At the end of the week, you are likely at a FC of zero. Typically those pools also always have algae. Just are not green yet. And they are likely cloudy. From that algae. And they are not sanitary.

Hi rebman… how is your budget? A couple or three things you could invest in. I lived in Cali before moving to Las Vegas in 2019 and doing an owner build for our pool was learned here on TFP.

Yes, we put in an autocover, a glacier pool water chiller and a salt water chlorine generator (SWG) from reading posts here on TFP. In fact, reading Marty’s posts over the year from 2018 - 2019 before we moved here convinced me/us to put those three things items in as part of our pool build.

On the days I don’t turn on the chiller, the water reaches 90+ degrees and is not refreshing. With the chiller on I can keep the water at around 86 degrees. The autocover helps reduce the high evaporation overnight and SWG generates the chlorine for the pool automatically. So I close with, how’s your budget?
