My completed pool project is one week old. My Auto Cover was just installed two days ago (very nice but insanely expensive). I noticed when I went out to get a water sample this morning when I retracted the cover to get the water sample steam just rolled off like fog in the morning. It was 56dg out and the water temp was 84dg so I understand the steam.

I don't have a pool heater yet (don't know that I ever will but plumbed for it just in case) so will the water stay warmer better if I leave the cover on during the day so the sun hits the cover or take cover off (retract it actually with the flip of a switch-pretty cool) so the sun hits the actual water during the day?

Wind will probably erase any gains. Ripples of ^^^^^^^^^^^^ have more surface area than the still pool -------------- and more surface area is more evaporation which is more heat loss.

Maybe you'll make out on days that are still with no breeze.
