Correct In-Line 2” Schedule 40 Union

Hello Everyone,

I’m opening up my brother-in-law’s Pentair Tagelus TA-100D sand filter to do a deep clean on the sand. The PB did not use unions when installing it, so I need to install 2”, Schedule 40 in-line unions for the three lines. I’m also ordering the spider gasket kit for the Model TM-22 multi port valve. Can anyone recommend the 2” Schedule 40 slip unions I need to get?

Any of them will do...

One more question. Once opened up, we plan on doing a “Deep Clean”, as recommended on TFP, on the filter sand. The Pentair Tagelus TA-100D sand filter has not been opened up and cleaned in the 7 years since installation (only back washed).

Based on my TFP reading, I’m aware that sand never “wears out” and have instructed my brother-in-law on the same. But he has operated his chlorine pool using tri-chlor tablets and using a local pool store to test his water and recommend additives. So, I’m not sure what has been added to the pool water over the years. His only savior may be the high rainfall amounts that he receives here to minimize CYA/calcium, etc. build up. Once our pool is built, I plan on testing his water using my TF-100 test kit and trying to ease him into the TFP pool maintenance method - but that will be months down the road.

Back to the filter sand. If, after the “Deep Clean“, the flow and pressure does not improve enough, he may decide he wants to change out the filter sand. According to the label on his Pentair Tagelus sand filter, the filter sand needs to be “#20 Silica Sand (0.18 - 0.22 in. Size)“. Our local Leslie’s has AquaQuartz #20 Grade Silica Sand for $25 per 50 lb. bag. Our local Home Depot has Quikrete 50lb Pool Filter Sand for $10 per 50 lb bag but it’s graded at 20/40 (0.85 - 0.425mm) or 0.033 - 0.017 in. Would it be a mistake to use the Quikrete sand?
