Copper fittings on an aluminum roller

I replaced a pool cover and its fixings last February. This week one of the straps securing the cover to the roller came free. There has been a build up of a mixture of white paste and compacted powder under each of the copper fixings. And the underlying aluminum/aluminium on the roller has become rough and pitted.
I presume the copper and the aluminum are reacting electrochemically. If this is the case, firstly is there a solution, and secondly how odd to sell fixings that are going to cause damage to the existing roller.
Thank you for your advice!

Welcome to TFP.

I think your problem is with the aluminum and not any copper interaction.

@JoyfulNoise thoughts?

I’d need to see a picture of the setup and where the aluminum is relative to the copper. I would doubt that copper has been used though as it is not a particularly strong metal. It’s more likely brass or bronze.
