I had an algae problem. I kept my chlorine over 10 ppm. I still had algae. I added copper sulfate at one cup per 16,000 gallons and tested at 0.4 ppm. My pool is slightly acidic at 7.0 and now my chlorine is at 1 ppm. I haven't had algae in two months. I am a copper sulfate convert. Since then I have added Boric Acid to get to 50 ppm. The Boric Acid supposedly wont dissipate and to get to 50 ppm took 45 lbs with my 36k gallon pool. I am on my 3rd 50 lb bucket of chlorine at $250 each for the the summer. I 50lb bucket should have lasted all summer.
The mustard algae is still algae and when it dies the algae bodies are like fine sand and stop up the pool filter in addition to daily scrubbing of the walls to remove the algae.
I have read chlorine does not work well at temperatures above 65 F. I live in Texas. Since the algae is under control I have since added CYA and adjust it since.
