We had Oklahoma stone on our original coping and are replacing it with travertine. Can someone refer me to industry standards for the width of the mastic? I thought I had read somewhere that it was 3/4" but want to confirm that. Is there a "standard"? We live in Texas

There are no industry standards on coping and decking.
The main problem with joints that wide is it uses much more mastic and foam rope to fill the joint.
I don’t see how weather has an effect on a wider joint. And if anything a wider joint is a benefit if the land shifts. So I think you need to give your builder better reasons why you want things redone which will be difficult once the coping and deck are installed.
