Starting the process of converting our pool to SWG. I'm installing a Pentair Intellichlor IC40 along with the power center. I will be utilizing my Easytouch to control the SWG. Looking to buy electrical supplies to wire in and I have a few questions about wiring the power center communication to the easy touch.
  1. Manual says to wire with 4 conductor 22 awg red/yellow/green/black. Do you run this wire through conduit to the easy touch panel?
  2. Do most people have 2 conduit runs going from SWG power center to ET? ( Power/Communication}
Thanks for the help.

Oh boy.... I've got THE DUDE who knows this stuff inside and out... let's page him! @Jimrahbe

(don't forget to check your current salt level in the pool before adding salt. Also keep the SWG off for a day after adding and mixing all the salt in)

J,

The IC40 comes with a plug on the end that either plugs into an EasyTouch, that has the built-in SWCG power supply, OR it needs to plug into an External Power Center..

Assuming you have the External Power Center. You need to wire AC power from the load side of the EasyTouch's Pump/Filter relay to the input side of the Power Center's transformer. This will supply power to the Power Center only when the pump is supposed to be running. This power would come from the high voltage (relay) side of the EasyTouch.

Then you need to run a 4 wire communications cable from the com port in the EasyTouch's main board, to the com port in the Power Center. (These wires would go through the low voltage side of the EasyTouch.

Since you never want to run high voltage wires and low voltage wires in the same conduit, you will need two different conduits.

Thanks,

Jim R.

J,

You can wire the Power Center for 120 VAC or 240 Volts AC, it will run on either.. What I would do is see how your pump/filter relay is wired.. If it is wired for 220 that is what I would use to power the Power Center, if the relay is wired for 120 that is what I'd use.. I suspect the relay is wired for 240..

If you are not sure, show us some pics of the EasyTouch relays and wiring.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Finished making the switch to SWG today. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I'm able to control ic40 through Easy Touch panel. Only question I have is if its normal to see micro bubbles coming from the returns? I have one return in the pool and one in the spa producing tiny bubbles and making a gurgling sound. Thanks for the help

Yep, pretty normal... You should notice that when the SWCG is generating chlorine you will have them, and you won't when the SWCG is not making chlorine.

And just to make sure we are on the same page.. If you have the IC40 set to 50% it will be on for about 2.5 minutes and then off for about 2.5 minutes.. You can check this by looking at the "Cell" light. It will only be on if the cell is generating chlorine.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I didn't know where to set ic40 to start. FC was at 6 when I fired system up, cya 50. I'm running it at 40% today and will test again tomorrow. Its not a very big pool so i didn't want ic40 to spike FC high. Im thinking I just need to monitor daily to dial in sweet spot. Thanks for your help through this process. Next step I'm going to Screen Logic.

J,
You can estimate your swg run time and % power with Pool Math under the Effects of Adding menu drop down top left. I've found it is very good at predicting my settings. You have to guess how much FC per day you need. This time of year 2-3 ppm is a good start for me in S Florida.
