Converting to saltwater

Hello,
We are going to sound so dumb, but here goes….I have a small 2,900 gallon above ground pool. I wanted to convert it to a saltwater system, but there was a bit of a miscommunication between my husband and me, he did a *little* research and picked out a sand pump, but did not get a salt generator. We set up the pool on Sunday and filled it, then today (Tuesday) reminded me I need to figure out how to take care of it. Two minutes into my research I learned we need a salt generator, I ordered one and it won’t be here until Saturday. Now we have a pool of water that’s going to get gross in the meantime. So my question is- can I use a chlorine puck in a floater for a few days to keep the water cleanish until we set up the salt generator? Thank you!!!

Just add some liquid chlorine. Remeber you also need stabilizer. Start wiht 30 ppm worth of stabilizer and about 2-3 ppm of liquid chlorine. The PoolMath can help you with dosages. Make sure the pH is between 7.2-7.8. Easy stuff.

For a pool your size, we normally recommend the article below. Very simple. But since you are going to salt, you'll need to ensure you have a Taylor K-1766 salt test kit. And now you probably won't want to dump water and lose all the salt, so you'll want to keep good water chemistry. For that, you'll want either a TF-100, TF-Pro Series, or Taylor K-2006C test kit. That's very important.
