My house faces south, pool on the back, north side. With wooded lots on either side of me, my pool only gets sun for about 4-7 hours a day depending on the season. While most of my neighbors are already swimming here in central Florida. I dipped in yesterday at 74°F. I can remember swimming on my birthday in March as a kid but yesterday, I immediately decided it was too cold for this lifelong Floridian.
My pool is only 12' x 23'. I don't have a heater. Reading old threads, people mentioned lights/water features etc. I don't have any of that, though I would like a pool light installed. That's for a future thread I think. In any case, due to it's size, I think getting a solar cover should be fairly easy on my bank account as well as removing and reinstalling for swimming. The biggest question I have is, with such limited sun exposure, will I really extend the swimming season for my family? Do you have to have a heater working in conjunction with the solar blanket for it to be truly effective? Additionally, I've read that you have to remove it in the winter. Why is that?
