This is confusing to me.. my current cya level is 40 if I look down it says my target level is 50. However then there is that little blurb that says Target level is 70 to 80 and the recommended safe range it is 60 to 90.
So what is up with it saying my target range is 50? I'm not adding any chemicals to balance this because I'm not sure what I'm balancing it to

Is the 16 oz of recommended stabilizer based on a Target level of 50 or ?

You need to set the targets for what YOU want. The defaults are exactly that, defaults and not recommendations.

POOLMATH is a calculator and does not know what levels you want to maintain your pool at. You need to set the levels you desire.

The higher levels are needed in the peak season. You don't need 70 to 90 these days, or in the early spring. 50 is probably plenty for you right now, and 40 may even be enough. :)
