Concrete deck removal/replacement

So I have a in ground pool and I don’t like the cool decking. I basically have 2 questions, can the cool decking be completely removed and new put down like travertine or something different? I don’t want to cap it with stone because then it adds depth to the already large coping. Or would it be better to cut it back and tile over the joint between the coping and then cap it?

I know where the skimmer is would need replaced either way. I have contacted a few pool companies and all they want to do is repair the current area. And recool deck it.
We are debating on stone like travertine or doing composite decking on part of the pool and some other stone around it in other areas.

Don’t mind the old chair cushion our dogs lay on them.

Your coping is not as wide as a sidewalk.

Today I learned if it's wide enough, it's kinda both.

Thanks. Yeah. There is not much room to walk around the pool. And I hate the 3 inch tall coping and the Cool deck is blah.

Since you don't have to tie with any existing decking, you basically have a blank slate to work with if you remove that coping and start from scratch.

Haha yeah it’s like a concrete coping sidewalk. I would hope the rocks are not a deck because they hurt my feet and I don’t enjoy them so much.

That’s what I am hoping to do I did not know if I could demo it and not damage the pool it’s self. That’s definitely the nice part is it is a blank slate. Which is something we liked when we got the house. But every company I call makes it sound like they just want to cap the concrete and I something different.

That a gunite/plaster pool with the coping (not deck) over a bond beam?

Removing the pored in place concrete coping will likely chip, damage, or pop off waterline tiles. So how much of a pool rehab are you planning? At the end your little decking project may become a complete plaster/tile/coping rehab project.

Thanks for the information I will wait a little bit on that then and start planning around it. The pool was built in 1997 and from my knowledge it is the original pebble tech in the pool. I am sure it will need done at some point in the next few years. There are a few water line tiles that have come off. Also I find the pebble stones in my filter sometimes maybe like 4 a month. But not many. Again thank you for the information I will do some research and at least have something to talk to a rehab company about.
