Hi, I had to do some repairs and our pool had been overrun with all kinds of algae including black, prior to draining. The pool is drained and cleaned and repaired, including replacing the pump and the DE Filter screens. I have a fear that black algae is in the pipes and was curious if any of the seasoned veterans had a list of steps they would take when filling the pool back up to make sure that there is no black algae. Thanks to everyone as this site/forum has been a lifesaver. On another note has anyone used the Crystal Water Monitor or something similar to constantly monitor balance and give you alerts?

Black algae will not stick to schedule 40 PVC.

How did you clean the pool of black algae?

Get CYA of 70-80 into the pool immediately after filling and run your FC hot at 10-16.

Run your FC at 20% of CYA for at least several weeks.

This is the part that sucks; run your FC on the high side in the future at a minimum of 12% of CYA; 15% is better to try and keep the black algae at bay.
