Commercial sanitizers?

Hi there, been following TFP for 2 seasons and it's been going great.

Question on chlorine, has anyone tried using a commercial sanitizer such as SparCHLOR? SparCHLOR | Spartan Chemical

The data sheet seems to say it's just basically bleach, but I don't know if there are any additional fragrances etc.

Just trying to save money on my bleach eater...

Looking at the SDS on the site, it is just 7-13% bleach. It is really that much cheaper?

See if you have a HASA dealer near you that sells the 12.5% bleach in bulk, refillable containers as that is usually the best deal.

Why does the HASA dealer matter? Does any pool store selling 12.5% bleach in bulk do the job?

If they sell in bulk / refillable jugs, then it is fine ... although there is a good chance that they are getting it from HASA ... at least in this part of the country

I found a HASA dealer about 45 minutes away. 4 gal of 12.5% were (including $6 deposit) $21. That does not seem like a very good deal as Home Depot has 2x10% for ~$6.36 and my local Ace has 2x10% for $5.99 every day.

If ACE stores their liquid chlorine indoors I would go with them. Check the dates -- you want it to not be over 2 months old.

Wow. My Ace is $6.99 daily for 10%. Leslie's wants $7.99.
My SWG costs me $1 per equivalent gallon of 10%. I like that better.

The HASA will certainly be fresher.

Ignoring the $6 deposit.

HASA is $0.234 / oz of chlorine
Ace is $0.234 / oz of chlorine

Funny, they are exactly the same price

So, if the Ace is closer and the stock is not old ... that might be the best deal you are going to find.

My ACE sells 10% chlorine with date codes from 2016.

Just did the math real fast,

Home Depot: 2gx10% $6.36: $0.24/effective oz
Ace 2gx10% $5.99: $0.23/effective oz
HASA dealer: 4x12.5% /$6 deposit: $0.22/effective oz (before deposit)

So after I buy 600 gallons, I will at that point be saving a penny per gallon over Ace.

Yep, they keep it inside and usually have plenty of stock. Often it'll go on sale too.

Where do pool guys get their liquid chlorine from? I notice pool company truck beds with the same big yellow milk carton looking thing, holding 4 bottles. Is that HASA chlorine?

Yup. I get the yellow crates too.
They have bulk muriatic acid too 35% I think? in orange crates and bottles.

My Ace has the HTH 10%. All it has on it is a lot number and nothing else on the box or jugs. I do notice the lot number keeps going up and adding it agrees with PoolMath.
At least they keep it inside compared to HomeDepot or Lowes.

What is the format of the lot number? Could be the julian date.

Maybe from a set point. Last box was B1007 before that was something like B984 etc.

If the former was B0987 .. that could mean the 98 day of 2017

Nope. None of the numbers stay the same. It just keeps incrementing.
