Combined Chlorine is and remains low. Cause for concern?

I purchased the TF100 test kit. I feel like I have the basics down on testing chlorine. It's summer and I'm in Vegas. We have had some pretty decent monsoon activity. Not really anyone swimming though. My chlorine drop test came back 3.5 FC and 0.5 CC. According to the testing documents these are OK readings. My question though is that I have not changed the SWG dial at all. I'm worried that my testing is flawed. These are the same readings I got 3 weeks ago. Shouldn't my CC have gone up since we just had 3 days of monsoon rain and wind?

CC is created by chlorine oxidizing Ammonia based compounds. In normal pool operations, you do not have that. People are the likely source in most cases.

Your FC of 3 is at the minimum. I agree we can ride there often in our climate, but I try to keep my FC near 5 ppm with a CYA of 70 ppm.

Not necessarily. CC is what chlorine has to work on in the water and the closest to 0 the better. Your. 5 is telling you you're good. I do think the FC is low for your location with higher CYA you should be no lower then 7.5% of the CYA.

Hi neighbor, although we live in the same city even if on different sides of the valley we are in the same environment. Where I am at in the valley I/we have not received very much appreciable rain.

You may want to test your CYA level. We can lose 2-3 ppm CYA each month just do to the warmth of the pool water, etc.

For our pool, even with our SWG, we keep our FC around 7 ppm. This assures us even with a heavy bather load and CYA 70 we are never near the minimum per the FC/CYA chart.

Hey Neighbor. Good to make your acquaintance!
Just curious if you keep the 7 ppm FC all year round?

All year, yes. I can lower the SWG percentage and with the UV in the fall and winter it works for me. If FC falls to 6 ppm, I don’t make any more percentage adjustments but if it drops to 5 ppm I look at CYA.

I also leave the cover on more in the winter which is another reason why I have to lower the SWG percentage.

Appreciate the info. Thanks!
