Went to go change out the DE and saw the inlet to my waterfall was collapsed. We run it for an hour every day just to keep the water moving. I used to run it at the same time as the primary pump but it was working a little too hard and started running it separately a few months ago.

It seems like this just happened, as one of us would have noticed it - we pass by or check the pad a few times a week, if not every day.

It’s a pretty small Jandy WaterFeature pump, 1.5hp.

Any ideas if it just failed or should I be troubleshooting up the line?

Can you post a pic of the entire equipment? Running it separately from the filter pump shouldn’t be a problem if the wf pump is dedicated. It appears the pump ran dry and overheated. Are there any intake valves that are closed? How does the pump basket and impellar look? Is the equipment above/below/level to the pool?

Will do once I get home. It’s weird that it would run dry just because I see it run every night, and it’s only on for an hour. It does lose prime so it takes a second to reprime. But, it’s also been like that for years.

No intake valves, and the three way hasn’t been touched. Pump basket looks fine, not sucked in like I’ve seen before. Not sure how to check the impeller. It’s all above the pool.

The pump most likely didn’t prime for a while, which caused overheating. In some cases can cause boiling water in the pot. I assume at some point it pulled enough water into the intake, but not enough to cool the pot. So when it did fail to prime that water would drop back into the pool(since the pool is below equipment) and there is a check valve on return. Causing gravitational suction. Since the the intake was hot, it caused it to implode. How much higher is the pool equipment from the pool?

Looking on my cameras as far back as I can, the pump has not run dry. I can see the waterfall coming on every time it is supposed to. The pump is sitting on a pad roughly level with the pool deck.
