cloudy water

Ok i just got a water test while wziting on my kit. All are ppm but phosphate
Fc-0.11
TC -0.64
CC- 0.53. Bit low
PH -7.5
Hardness -87 bit low
Alk- -100
CYA -17 bit low
Copper-0.1
Iron -0
Phosphate- 1090 ppb

Salesman said i had dormant cc and needed to bleach. And phosphate reducer. So. Correct advice?

No. Phosphates do not matter. And have never heard of 'dormant' CC. That is a new one.

Add bleach. Maintain 5 ppm in the pool. When you get the test kit run a full set of tests and post them here.

Take care.

5ppm for what? He said combined chlorine wss basically dormant or suspended chlorine that wont activate til i slam/shock it..????
How much bleach do i add with 11,000 gl?

Oh and saturday we have a kids pool party so i need a safe chlorine level by then.

5 ppm FC. Use PoolMath to determine the amount of bleach to add.

Since you have little idea what your pool chemistry is a pool party right now might not be the best idea. IF, and a big IF, you believe the CYA from the pool store test, your shock level is about 8 ppm FC, so as long as you stay under that, the pool is safe to swim in.

Take care.

Put 11000 in the Size box, upper left.
Put 0 in Now for FC.
Put 5 in Target for FC.
Put the strength of your bleach (normally 8.25% for Great Value Walmart, etc). Comes out 2 qts, 2 cups. You do not have to be exact with your add, a little more is better.
I picked 5 ppm as it is not too high to damage anything and if you have low CYA, it will burn off rapidly due to sunlight.

Your issue is, you have no idea what your CYA is. Yes the Pool Store tested it, and there is no test method that can test to the level they gave you. So it is not reliable.

How have you been chlorinating? It is odd your CYA would be that low.

From tftestkits.net:

As a general precaution, we recommend replacing reagents every year. However, we will guarantee reagents for up to 18 months from date of purchase. If you have a reagent that you think has expired, send back the unused portion and we will send you out a new reagent.

TFT will actually hold the same warranty as Taylor...up to 12 months. Since TFTestkits uses the same chemistry as Taylor Technologies, we stick with the same warranty. If you ever have any issue with a reagent, please contact me at tftestkits.net. I'll look through my online store TFTestkits.net and make sure I haven't left the old 18 months up there. Sorry about that if I did.

One floating tablet, shock every two weeks and 95 degree days back to back
IF you have consistently done that, and IF your shock is dichlor - then it is very likely your CYA is far above what your pool store stated.

Need a proper test kit - I know - broken record.

Take care.

i slammed it with the bleach last night. should i vacuum it today? still cloudy but for the first time the filter didnt plug up in hours.

How could you SLAM. You do not have a test kit -- it is not possible to SLAM without a FAS-DPD test kit and knowing your CYA

and what kind of stabilizer should i use?

- - - Updated - - -

you told me 2 qts and 2 cups... so thats what i added

Stabilizer is CYA is conditioner. It is a powder, sold at Walmart and Home Depot or Lowes.

I told you what to add to place yourself into a holding pattern.

You need a test kit.

That was NOT a SLAM!

No -- Clorox, Pool Time, HtH, etc

But please do not add any until you have a test kit. If you add, and as I suspect, your pool store number is unreasonably low, and then you have too much CYA in your pool water, you will be draining water to do a SLAM.
