Cloudy Water After Citric Acid, Sequestrant, and Filter Fiver

Hi there - I have had my pool for a few years now, but noticed that I was getting iron stains. About 6 months ago I used Citric Acid and then Jacks Purple Stuff to clear the iron, and it did a great job. I went to do it again (after lowering my pH to 7.2 and my FC to 0), but this time I also used Jacks Filter Fiber Magic. My pool is about 14,000 gallons with a cartridge filter so used about 20oz of filter fiber and the 32 oz of purple stuff. I used half a bottle of Citric Acid, not sure what the weight was. I woke up to my pool being extremely cloudy. Wondering if this is the filter fiber, and if so, what action should I take? The pressure on the system has not gone up, so the cartridge filter I have has not gotten clogged. Thanks for the help. Happy to post more info if needed.

I would point the finger at algae or possibly just the sequestrant before the filter fiber.
Did you use polyquat 60 algaecide before allowing the fc to fall below minimum for your cya?
Its still pretty warm in naples, so algae can take hold pretty quickly.

Here’s the guide

We generally recommend waiting until the water is in the low 60’s to do the AA treatment to help reduce the chance of algae.
If its been 24 hours you can start rebalancing the water (including slowly introducing chlorine) as outlined in the article and see if it clears up. You really don’t want to have to do the
SLAM Process for a couple weeks as it can make the stains return.

Thanks @Mdragger88 I put a little bit of liquid chlorine in last night and woke up to a perfectly clear pool! So it must've been algae of some sort. It did indeed happen pretty quickly, but I think I'm in a good spot. I've been following that AA treatment, but wasn't expecting the algae bloom. I'm going to try and adjust back up without Polyquat 60; just slowly adding liquid chlorine and putting my SWG on low.

Thanks again for the help!

Its too late for the polyquat now- its a preventative at best. It just buys you the 24 hours or so you need to complete the treatment. So use it next time if there is one.
Being sure to keep ph lowish for a while should prevent recurrence of the stains while still maintaining adequate fc.
After maintaining for a couple weeks you should be able to do a slam if needed.
Hopefully you won’t have to. Once you’re able to maintain fc in target range for your cya you can do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to see where you stand with algae (I would do this periodically even if things look clear since you had a close call).
At first fc demand can be higher due to the citric acid you added but that phenomenon should slow down once it is all dissipated.
Definitely keep an eye on it.
Ideally you want to eliminate the cause of the stains in the first place (rusty equipment etc)
and replace the metal laden water with metal free water if at all possible or you’ll need to get the pool on a sequestrant diet to keep the stains at bay perpetually.
