There is a leak in my 18x36 vinyl pool, the level drops about 2-3 inches everyday. I'm trying to clear it for the repair work to be done using a diver. It's tough to maintain FC at Shock level and CYA is low as well. Does it make sense to partially cover the pool in order to maintain FC at Shock levels?

If you intend to keep the pool filled at the end of the season, and continue to press-forward with the repairs, then I would say "yes", covering the pool will help to retain FC. Definitely watch your CYA as well to ensure it doesn't go below 30 while you are doing a SLAM.
Is there any risk of the paint from the cover coming off due to the high chlorine? My cover does partially contact the water in the pool.
