I have been fighting a cloudy pool issue most of the summer. I have been keeping a excel log of reading and what I did. This started in May15, 2017 (6 months after draining and refilling the whole pool.

may 15 Readings

FC= 8
CH= 200
CYA=90
TAC= 70
ph=7.5
Copper & iron = 0
TDS= 500
PHO= 200

Fast forward to today 8/23/17

FC= 10
CH= 250
CYA=90
TAC= 120
ph=7.4
Copper & iron = 0
TDS= 51800
PHO= 0

I am currently working on the theroy that my problem is the High CYA ( 8/18 it was 100). The pool is cloudy and light green at times. Since the 18th I have removed the Triclor tables and am using liquid chlorine to keep the FC higher because of the high CYA. How I am reducing the CYA is by draining the pool a foot every week (we are in the middle of summer high use time). I currently am using polusheen blue (3oz. every 48 hrs) to try and clarify the water and am adding Cellulose Fiber (3 cups) to the filter after every back wash every 48 hrs. I am running the pumps full (3400rpm) 24/7. In June I replaced the sand in my filter even though I did not think it was the problem but thought I'd try that. It has cleared a few times for a few days. My focus on lowering the CYA has been for about a week and increasing the chlorine level to the Chlorine/CYA chart has changed the light green to w off white. Water seems to be clearing up but I seen that before. Any thought as to what I am doing or what else I can do?

Welcome to the forum!

Appears those are pool store tests? We recommend having your own test kit and not using the pool store. Their tests are typically inaccurate and rarely repeatable.

I suggest you first order a test kit. The two that have all the tests you need are the K2006C or the TF100. The TF100 is the best value for the residential pool owner. TFTestkits.net sells it.

You will need to SLAM Process. It is advisable to lower your CYA, if it is that high or more likely, much higher than what the pool store has been giving you.

I would stop the 'polusheen blue', I assume that is a copper based algaecide. Not good. Will lead to a stained pool and turning blonde hair green.

With your size pool I suggest you add 1 gallon of liquid chlorine each day until you get your test kit. Run a full suite of tests with the kit and post them here.

Glad to have you here on the forum.

Take care.
