I decided to take my water in for testing today being the curious new pool owner i am. Upon testing my numbers didnt come back as good as i thought they would. I did as instructed and all was well until the Phosfree went in. Almost immediately the water clouded. Any help to get these numbers right and clear water would be appreciated. I did add alkalinity up and chlor neutralizer before the phos free.

Hello and welcome!

Unfortunately we don’t like to give advice based on pool store tests. We find that far too often they’re completely off-base and don’t have a basis in what is actually happening in your pool. Indifference on the part of the person running the test, lack of training, lack of calibration on test equipment, all lead to inaccuracies. We’d hate to give advice that doesn’t work or is flat-out wrong because of starting from inaccurate data.

We highly recommend you get your own test kit and take control of your pool yourself. You don’t need anything from inside Leslie’s, and the cost of the kit (about $100 or so) will be easily covered by not buying their potions and expensive remedies that don’t work more often than not. See Test Kits Compared for the kits we recommend - the Taylor K-2006c (the “c” is important) is available on Amazon and the like, or the TFT-100 is available from the website in the link.

We also don’t feel phosphate remover is needed, generally speaking, as if a pool has enough chlorine maintained in it, the amount of algae food in it is irrelevant. Sounds like you’ve already added it - you’ll need to let it settle down to the bottom and vacuum it up, but since you don’t want it in your filter, you’ll want to vacuum to waste. Do you have a way of doing that with your equipment?
