I'm replacing the liner on my inground salt pool in September, refilling it to the usual closing level with truck/city water. I plan to add only winter algaecide, then at opening add salt and cyanuric acid. Any thoughts?
Welcome to TFP! I personally would have concerns that algaecide (i.e. Poyquat 60) alone would get you through 5-6 months or so. Plus, without actually being able to mix and test the water, you have no idea what the other levels are, especially pH and TA.
Do you have a submersible pump? If so I would use that to mix the water so you can add chems (adjust ph if necessary) & follow the advice in the closing article - electing to do either 1/2 slam level fc & polyquat or full slam level & no polyquat.
Winterizing a pool is essential for keeping your in-ground pool protected during cold-weather months. This Pool Repair guide will show you how to do it.
I find it difficult to fill it and not be able to observe it to be sure the liner is 100%. For all you know it losses water what would be your next step.

I tend to agree- all the cuts/gaskets in the liner at the skimmer & return areas should be checked. Getting them to do something about a problem many months later after it sits all winter could be problematic.
I know it seems like a waste to fill it up only to turn around & pump some of the water off but it would give peace of mind that everything is correct and allow for proper winterizing procedures to be carried out.
