My old user, kenshell would not log in so I had to create a new one.

So as I was closing my 18x33 AG pool, as I was cleaning it, it literally started ripping and falling apart.
It is 19 years old. We tried to patch it seems its just too much. Seams falling apart and many tears
Being in NJ, with the cold winter, I decided to drain it. (it was going to slowly drain itself anyway)

Whats the bet way to prepare for a new liner in the spring?
Drain it and remove the old liner or leave it in and just keep draining it the best we can til spring?

Most ABG pools need water in the liner to stabilize the walls. So you may have an issue with the walls if there is no liner with water in it.

19 yrs is a pretty good run for an above ground pool. May be time to look into replacing the whole thing not just the liner.
There are many nice diy options now including pools with resin walls.
When the liner comes out this may become very evident especially if it has been leaking for any length of time. Once rust takes hold you’re begging for a rupture & that’s alot of water.
You can deconstruct the pool now & put a tarp or leave the liner bottom over the area to try to preserve the ground over the winter so minimal ground work will need to be performed before install. Taking a pool down goes way faster than putting one up.
